Durnford (b.1923) served in the European Theater of World War II with the 725th Bomb Squad, 463rd Bomb Group, 5th Wing, 15th Air Force. He was wounded during the Berlin Air Raid and, in 1946, was discharged from service at the rank of 1st lieutenant.
